]]>John Garp and a few others found this peregrine in Mt Auburn Cemetery on Sept 13, 2008

It clearly was someone's bird. We assume it got away from them.

Owls

esmithphoto@gmail.com (Eric Smith photography) — Fri, 16 Oct 2026 00:00:00 GMT

]]>I just love photographing owls, and I have a knack for finding them. These were taken in a variety of places around MA.

Favorites

]]>My personal favorites.
Most are my best, but not all. Some times its because I got exactly what I was looking for... or it was the friends I was with... the fun of the trip. There are many reasons why an image can appear here.

Dunback Meadow owls

esmithphoto@gmail.com (Eric Smith photography) — Fri, 16 Oct 2026 00:00:00 GMT

]]>Dunback Meadow is a not-so-large chunk of conservation land in Waltham, Ma.

It's a nice place to walk year around. But in the winter, the red pine grove becomes the favorite place for owls. In particular, Long Eared, Saw whet and Great Horned.

I've seen up to 5 long eared, 3 saw whet and 2 great horned at different times.

Unfortunately, it looks like Great Horned Owls are now nesting there, which has scared the other owls away. Who knows, we'll see what next year brings

]]>This screech owl nested at the state park called "Sandy Beach" on the upper Mystic Lake. It came back year after year for about... 4 years. I visited this owl many times.

Birder's meeting 2008

esmithphoto@gmail.com (Eric Smith photography) — Fri, 14 Mar 2008 14:51:00 GMT

]]>For the last three years I've helped out with the AV setup at the Mass Audubon Birder's meeting. In trade I have made a slide show that shows between speakers and during lunch. These are the images that I used this year. They are among my favorites of all time... although keeping it to 60 images is always hard.

To other photographers also have their slides in the show. Alex Couter and Shawn Carey (their slides are not in this galleries.)
